Rockport to renew HMH Into Reading at elementary and adopt NWEA MAP Growth for benchmarks

Committee staff reported the completion of a K'12 curriculum review and recommended that the elementary program continue with HMH Into Reading on a three-year renewal that includes new teacher manuals, digital licenses and updated decodable libraries.
Jody said the decision followed a review of multiple vendors and classroom-level feedback. "We've chosen NWE map growth," Jody said when announcing the benchmark selection; staff said NWEA MAP Growth will be used for ELA and mathematics K'10 and for science in selected grades as part of a three-year contract, and that the product is broadly normed and provides analytic views that link to other district systems.
The committee discussed how using a nationally normed benchmark alongside local and state measures would create a more complete picture of student learning. Staff also noted that HMH's assessment measures were being retired and that a strategic alignment between HMH instructional materials and NWEA assessment data would reduce duplication of effort.
Members asked questions about administration cadence and sharing results with families; staff said assessments would occur multiple times per year (beginning, middle and end) and that meaningful, parent-facing reporting happens primarily through conferences and individualized meetings when concerns are identified.
