A resident who said she had provided a letter and a map told the board of multiple past incidents on her corner and stressed that her home has been a school bus stop for decades. The board heard similar accounts from neighbors and asked staff to forward the petition letters to the town and state as appropriate. After the public comments the board closed the hearing, moved to approve implementing the stop signs and approved the measure by voice vote.
The board’s action is a local traffic-control decision that will be forwarded to the town (Islip) and, where the roadway is state-owned, to New York State Department of Transportation for engineering review.
