After an executive-session discussion about SCORE funding administration, Laurens County Council authorized the county administrator to enter a contractual agreement with PlaySafe to apply for $210,000 in SCORE funds for 2026.
Councilman Brownlee moved the measure; the motion described distribution of the funds: $35,000 to continue the program at the coroner’s office and $175,000 to fund two full‑time outreach coordinators in schools. Brownlee told council the committee recommended PlaySafe to administer SCORE funds and said a board representing sheriff, coroner, EMS, health, gateway board, county staff and school-district representatives would vet applications and return recommendations to full council. The motion passed 5-0.
Council directed that any contract with PlaySafe return to council for final approval of program applications and that the committee would begin operations in early 2027.
