Council approved the accommodations-tax (ATAX) committee’s recommended awards and agreed to allocate remaining funds to support county tourism facilities.
Andy Howard, speaking for the committee, said this year’s ATAX receipts totaled "$264,896.13," the highest he has seen. The committee recommended funding each applicant at the amounts requested and placing remaining funds toward paying for Placer AI and additional support for the county AgCenter. Howard said the AgCenter had generated strong event interest and could host multi-night events that bring visitors and spending into the county.
Councilman Brownlee moved to approve the recommended awards and to allocate $74,280 of the remaining balance to the AgCenter contingent on the ATAX committee’s review; the motion carried 5-0. Howard and council members said they will return additional allocation recommendations after the tax committee meets.
