Residents press trustees on proposed school stadium lights, ask village to consider environmental review role

At the public-comment portion of the Dec. 8 meeting, resident Michael Secando (17 Field Court) asked trustees whether the village would consider serving as lead agency for the state environmental-review process for a proposed stadium lights project on school property, citing potential off-site impacts including nighttime glow, noise, traffic and drainage. "Would the village consider serving as lead agency?" he asked, noting the value of early, transparent review of possible impacts.
Multiple residents echoed those concerns. Gretchen Goodpingle said the lights proposal has resurfaced cyclically and referenced a 2021 Tuckahoe ban on stadium lights as an example residents found helpful. Village Counsel advised trustees that, "zoning laws are not applicable on school property" when an improvement demonstrably serves an educational purpose, and that the lights project did not appear to be at a land-use application stage yet. Trustees asked staff to record names of concerned residents and requested a show of hands to document community interest for the record.
