Bronxville mayor praises firefighters after Rivermere blaze; 23 families returned home

Mayor Mary opened the Dec. 8 meeting by asking for a moment to remember a Rivermere resident who died in a recent apartment fire and by publicly thanking emergency responders and neighbors who helped evacuate occupants. "And, the good news, in 20 hours... we got 23 families back in their homes tonight," she said, adding that the building superintendent rescued a woman with a ladder and that mutual aid from Eastchester firefighters and local police was crucial.
Village Administrator Jim Palmer and trustees described ongoing recovery work and temporary rehousing: 13 people were placed by the Red Cross at a Tuckahoe hotel the night of the fire, and the building inspector and police chief planned another site visit to enable a cleaning company to make the rear building safe. Mayor Mary said the village was documenting residents' concerns and coordinating with the school and other organizations to support those affected.
