The Wheaton City Council on April 20 approved O‑2026‑24, an ordinance amending prior ordinances that govern DuPage PADS’ overnight operations at 703 W. Liberty Drive. The ordinance incorporates six Planning & Zoning Board conditions and includes an additional staff‑recommended condition that DuPage PADS provide annual documentation on its ability to fund overnight operations.
April Redzik, President and CEO of DuPage PADS, told the council the organization plans to meet with the Police and Fire chiefs for an initial walkthrough to develop a public‑safety plan. Councilmembers voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance; staff will return with the required documentation and coordinate public‑safety planning with city departments.
