Wheaton to reconstruct Gables Boulevard after council approves $1.514M contract

The Wheaton City Council on April 20 adopted Resolution R‑2026‑35 to award construction services for the Gables Boulevard Reconstruction Project for a total amount not to exceed $1,514,000 and a 10% contingency. City Manager Michael Dzugan said the city received three bids after a prior round produced a single bid at $1.8 million that exceeded the 2026 budget.
Dzugan explained Gables Boulevard is in very poor condition and the city will use capital reserves to proceed; he said the city expects a $325,000 grant to offset part of the expense. Councilwoman Robbins confirmed the poor condition of Gables during discussion. The resolution passed unanimously.
