Bronxville applies for county Safe Streets funds to formalize Meadow/Pond Field pedestrian design

Village staff and the new village engineer described a pilot project at Meadow and Pond Field that used striping and bollards to narrow vehicle travel lanes and improve pedestrian sight-lines. Jim Palmer (speaker 4) and Ashaki Shockey (village engineer) said the next step is a formal design and an application to Westchester County’s Safe Streets initiative for design and construction funding.
Palmer told trustees the county application seeks design funding first and a separate commitment would cover up to 50% of project costs if the county agrees to share construction costs. He said the design would include new sidewalks where none exist, additional bollards and better striping to protect students and other pedestrians. "This would be the formal design that we would share with the public," Palmer said. The board approved both resolutions and asked staff to continue observation and community outreach during the pilot phase.
