Bronxville trustees agree to process petition to move village elections to November

Trustees on the Village of Bronxville Board of Trustees voted July 21 to process a citizen petition seeking a referendum on changing the village election month from March to November. Resident David Wiley said the petition he submitted on behalf of 457 signatories represents voters across the village’s seven districts and asked the village to send a certified copy of the referendum text to the Westchester County Board of Elections by Aug. 4, 2025 to allow inclusion on the Nov. 4 general election ballot.

"The purpose of this petition is to give Bronxville voters the choice as to whether village elections take place in March or November each year," Wiley said. Mayor Mary Marvin and counsel confirmed the village had received the petition; trustees moved, seconded and approved a resolution authorizing village personnel to take the legal steps required to review and process the petition. Under New York state election law cited during public comment, a petition with at least 200 signatures from enrolled Bronxville voters can require a referendum, and Wiley noted his petition comfortably exceeds that threshold.

Trustees did not place a timetable for the board’s internal review in public remarks beyond instructing staff to follow statutory deadlines. Administrator Jim Palmer and counsel were asked to coordinate with the petitioner to ensure the village transmits the certified referendum text to the county by the petitioner’s requested date.
