During a June 17 budget hearing, Granite School District staff told the Board the district plans for scheduled school rebuilds and remodels and is using a pay-as-you-go capital model with $58.6 million in local capital funds earmarked for future projects and to close out work at Cyprus and Skyline.
Brian Ipson and Business Administrator Todd Hauber presented the preliminary annual budget and said the district has a $13.2 million general fund deficit. Ipson explained that capital funds in the local section are intended for continuing renovations and new builds and that those funds are invested in the public treasury while awaiting expenditure.
The presentation framed capital priorities alongside operating pressures that prompted the proposed preliminary tax rate. Board members questioned how capital funds would be allocated and how closure-related savings affected the operating budget.
