Granite School Board hears Area 5 study that could close 2–3 schools and redraw boundaries

Steve Hogan, Granite School District planning and boundaries director, presented the Population Analysis Committee (PAC) Area 5 Study, saying the PAC is considering closure of "2–3 schools" and boundary adjustments as it balances enrollment and facility use. He listed community outreach efforts and said out-of-boundary students would be assured an opportunity to remain in their current school in 2026.
Board member Julie Jackson thanked the PAC subcommittee for community engagement but said the district "overlooked notifying the entire area, which seemed secretive to some," and invited patrons to contact board members and PAC with concerns. The PAC listed next steps and anticipates final action in December 2025; no formal decision was made at the June 3 meeting.
