District leaders reported they have engaged a third-party consultant to perform a high-end indoor and outdoor security audit. The consultant has met with the district emergency response team and is conducting on-site walk-throughs and interviews to evaluate lighting and other security conditions; staff said the consultant will deliver a written security assessment that the district and town will use to make informed capital decisions.
"He started, the consultant... meeting with that small team first... he's here all day today and all day tomorrow... he's trying to do campus walkthroughs to see how dark or light it is in certain areas of our campus," the superintendent said. The meeting also covered planned technology and facilities purchases: ParentSquare software (described as replacing several other communication tools), installation of an audio-visual system in the middle-high cafeteria, and a server-room air-conditioning purchase. The music department reported receiving two high-quality grand pianos (one donated, one purchased at a discount) and arranged an economical moving solution; once the donation is official, it will appear on the donations list at the next meeting.
The security assessment was described as a year-long project that will produce a prioritized list of needs to inform both town and district capital planning. Committee members emphasized collaboration with town officials on capital projects and the importance of transparent budgeting when requests cross town and school responsibilities.
