Lammersville Joint Unified highlights strong CAASPP gains; some student groups still need support

Assistant Superintendent Sharp presented the district’s CAASPP results and told trustees that “LUSD far exceeds state and county proficiency in English language arts, math, and science.” The presentation showed year‑to‑year growth at several sites and singled out Cordes Elementary for a 14% increase in science proficiency; districtwide, science grew about 2% and several subgroups (Black/African American, Hispanic, socioeconomically disadvantaged) also posted gains.
Trustees discussed small declines in math (less than one percentage point) and asked staff about corrective steps. Sharp and other staff attributed minor dips to implementation challenges with a new math intervention and said the district has increased professional development and expectations for consistent use of the FMI math intervention. Board members emphasized continued focus on English learners and students with disabilities, and staff noted additional ELD curriculum, newcomer supports and planned bilingual‑aide professional development in January–February.
"The majority of our students who are not at proficiency level are near proficiency level," Sharp said, adding that targeted interventions and impact teams will continue to be deployed. The board did not take a formal vote; the presentation will inform LCAP and future monitoring.
