Residents press board for traffic controls after child struck near neighborhood school

Two neighborhood residents addressed the board about a hazardous intersection near a neighborhood school, describing a recent incident in which a child was struck and urging the district to press the county for traffic control measures. ‘‘We need a stop sign, a crossing guard, a flashing red light, a human something to stop,’’ said Pete Moyer, who said he has been counting vehicle volumes at the intersection and estimated heavy commuter traffic. Neighbors said large warehouse developments and future transit projects will increase traffic and that volunteers are willing to serve as crossing guards if the legal waivers and training are available.
Board leadership said the Brown Act limits immediate responses to non‑agendized public comments but pledged staff follow‑up; the board asked staff to contact county officials and to connect with the volunteers to explore short‑term mitigation measures. The public speakers urged that crossing‑guard staffing, a stop sign or a flashing light be pursued as near‑term priorities.
