Owners seek $772,000 Restore NY Round 9 grant to restore 160 North Road into tasting room and event space

The Marlborough Town Board held a public hearing on Nov. 25, 2024 on a Restore NY Round 9 grant application proposing to restore the historic house at 160 North Road in Milton. Supervisor Corcoran opened the hearing and resident Rosemary Wein presented the project details, saying Round 8 had not been funded but that Empire State Development had visited the site and provided positive debriefing.
Wein told the board the house is 3,200 square feet and that the total project cost is $872,000, with a grant request of $772,000. She described a plan "to deconstruct the home and use as much of the original material as possible to rebuild" and to convert the rebuilt structure into a cider tasting room, a farm-to-table restaurant and event space. Wein said the proposal aligns with the town's Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP) and Comprehensive Plan.
Local supporters spoke during the hearing. Peggy Kent and Maddie Stewart (identified as manager at the Locust Grove) said restoring the historic building will provide a usable event and tasting space for the farm and help local agriculture adapt and thrive. James Garofalo thanked the applicants for pursuing the funding and Steve Jennison said he "fully supports this wonderful project that will help future generations keep the farms and agriculture businesses going."
No formal vote on the grant application was recorded at the hearing; Councilman Molinelli moved to close the public hearing at 7:18 p.m., a motion seconded by Councilman Cauchi and carried 4-0. The hearing record was signed by Deputy Town Clerk Danielle Cherubini.
