Conservation Advisory Committee flags Clean Energies Community opportunities and emergency preparedness work

Mici Simonofsky, chair of the Town’s Conservation Advisory Committee (CAC), presented the committee’s October 28 report and told the board a new Clean Energies Community (CEC) opportunity has opened potential grant avenues tied to NYSERDA. The CAC said the CEC program follows similar outlines to Climate Smart Communities but may allow earlier and more competitive grant applications on issues easier to document and bid.
Simonofsky said the CAC is gathering data and expects to present recommendations to the board. She also reported that member Haidaoui is attending Cornell Cooperative Extension Environmental Council meetings related to an Emergency Preparedness document; the CAC expects to receive a letter of suggestions that it will follow through on and anticipates receiving Climate Smart Community points once the issue is finalized.
The board did not take immediate action on CAC recommendations at the workshop but was thanked in advance for anticipated support as the CAC continues its work.
