Hasbrouck Heights board approves HERC Rentals site plan, conditions access agreement

The Borough of Hasbrouck Heights Land Use Board voted Aug. 6 to approve PB25-05, a minor site-plan application and use-variance request for HERC Rentals at 50-58 Route 17 North. The approval was moved by Member Albert Cupo and seconded by Member Vincent Risalvato; the roll call was unanimous.
John Rizzo, attorney for the applicant, described the site as an existing nonconforming use and said the proposal would expand onto the adjacent property to improve ingress and egress. "This is a pre-existing non-conforming use; storage rental and sales of construction vehicles," Rizzo said, adding the consolidation would improve on- and off-site traffic circulation and safety.
The application would create six additional striped parking spaces and comply with State standards for EV-charging stations, Rizzo said. The applicant also reported it has exchanged a proposed access agreement with the borough attorney; board approval was conditioned on Mayor & Council approval of that access agreement.
Member Albert Cupo moved to approve the application "as presented, subject to Mayor & Council's approval on the access agreement," and Member Vincent Risalvato seconded. Board Secretary Pam Grisafe conducted a roll call: Henry Dobbelaar, Eric Mason, Marlene Verrastro, Kenneth Hampel, Vincent Risalvato, Albert Cupo and Dan Wixon all voted yes; the application was approved.
The approval permits HERC Rentals to continue and expand its rental and sales operations at the Route 17 location. The board did not receive public comment in favor of or opposed to the application during the hearing.
