District to prioritize science and STEM curriculum review for 2026-27 under 10-year cycle

Kristen Dixon, director of teaching and learning, briefed the board on the district's 10-year curriculum review process and flagged science and tech-ed/STEM as the two biggest review priorities for the 2026-27 school year. "If you remember, we have a that 10 year curriculum review cycle," Dixon said, describing a schedule that staggers subject-area evaluations to ensure periodic updates.
Dixon said secondary science likely needs the deepest look because it has lacked new curriculum for some time; the district will also examine PLTW engineering pathway options in STEM and evaluate social studies resources across K-12. She said curriculum proposals will first go to the teaching-and-learning committee and then return to the full board for discussion and a one-month review period before final action. Board members asked for reports back to the committee and indicated they may request additional supporting materials when adoption items come forward.
