New operations director outlines urgent repairs: press box stop-work order, Nodaway bid delays and boiler concerns

Robbie Clements, who began last week as the district's Director of Operations, told the board that facility walk-throughs at six schools identified safety and maintenance issues that must be prioritized before the Aug. 31 school opening. He said work at the Southampton High School press box was performed without required permits, the contractor lacked proper licensing, and a building inspector issued a stop-work order; the district has engaged a properly licensed contractor to develop a new scope of work.
Clements also updated the board on the Nodaway Elementary repair project (flood damage from broken pipes) and said two mandatory pre-bid meetings drew zero contractors on the first attempt; an addendum and second pre-bid were scheduled ahead of an Aug. 20 bid opening. At Riverdale Elementary he reported that one of two boilers has been out of service for more than a year and recommended treating replacement or repair as a priority to restore heating redundancy.
