Committee approves increasing Tennessee Lottery board from seven to nine directors

Chairlady Littleton presented House Bill 2080 and amendment 14,937 to the State and Local Government Committee, describing changes to appointments and audit notification requirements for the Tennessee Lottery Corporation.
"This bill makes new appointments to the Tennessee Lottery Corporation Board of Directors, nine total now," Chairlady Littleton said, explaining the amendment raises the board size from seven to nine and allocates three appointments each to the governor, the speaker of the house and the lieutenant governor. The amendment also removed a sunset and added that house and senate chairs of finance must receive copies of any audit from the comptroller or independent accountant.
Committee members asked about the purpose of the changes and whether they would improve geographic and professional diversity on the board. Littleton said the changes were intended to broaden representation and ensure audits are shared with key legislative finance chairs. The committee voted to move the amended bill to calendar and rules, 18 ayes and 3 present not voting.
The bill now proceeds to the next committee scheduling step for floor consideration.
