The Southwest Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously July 17 to nonrenew the term contract of Elsa Sanchez-Quintanilla, effective at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. The Board reconvened in open session at 11:42 p.m. after meeting in closed session and adopted the Superintendent's recommendation; Trustee Daniel Carrillo moved the motion and Trustee James Sullivan seconded. All members present voted in favor and the motion carried.
Board President Sylvester Vasquez Jr. announced the Board had convened in closed session earlier in the evening under the Texas Government Code to consult with counsel and to conduct a nonrenewal hearing. The minutes cite Texas Government Code Sections 551.001–551.146, including §551.071 for attorney consultation and §§551.074, 551.082 and 551.0821 together with Texas Education Code §21.207 regarding the personnel and nonrenewal matters that were considered. The minutes record there were no additional remarks by the Superintendent and that the meeting adjourned at 11:44 p.m.
