SAN ANTONIO — The Southwest Independent School District Board of Trustees convened a public hearing June 17, 2025, at the district’s central office to receive a staff update on the district’s ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) Consolidated Federal Grant application. Board President Sylvester Vasquez Jr. called the hearing to order at 5:45 p.m., and Loretta Zavala, the district’s director of external funding and grants, presented the report.
Zavala said the Consolidated Federal Grant application bundles the district’s Title I, Title II, Title III and Title IV funding streams. According to the presentation, the combined application is intended to support student achievement, professional learning for teachers and administrators, services for English learners and migrant students, and broader efforts to provide a well‑rounded education. The minutes list those grant purposes explicitly and identify the covered Titles I–IV by name.
The board opened the floor for public comment on the ESSA report; the minutes record that there were no comments from the public. No formal motions or votes were taken during the hearing.
