Southwest ISD board unanimously approves student code, equipment purchases and new courses

The Southwest Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the 2025–2026 Student Code of Conduct and multiple procurement items during a special meeting on Aug. 5, 2025. Trustee Ida Sudolcan moved the code’s approval and Trustee Florinda Bernal seconded; "All members present voted in favor; the motion carried," according to the minutes.
The board approved purchases of supplies and equipment from Pocket Nurse (motion moved by Ida Sudolcan, seconded by Daniel Carrillo), DiaMedical, USA (moved by Sudolcan, seconded by Florinda Bernal) and zSpace (moved by Sudolcan, seconded by Carrillo). Trustees also approved the 2024–2025 secondary new course list (motion moved by Sudolcan, seconded by James Gonzalez). Minutes record each of those motions as carrying with all members present voting yes. Present at the meeting and recorded as voting in favor were Trustees Florinda Bernal, Daniel Carrillo, James Gonzalez, Ida Sudolcan and Board President Sylvester Vasquez Jr.; Trustees Jose Diaz and James Sullivan Jr. were absent.
After convening in closed session under Texas Government Code Chapter 551.074 for personnel matters, the board reconvened at 1:13 p.m. and approved the superintendent’s personnel recommendations. The motion to approve those recommendations was moved by Trustee Ida Sudolcan and seconded by Trustee Florinda Bernal; the minutes state the motion carried with all members present voting in favor.
