Patton Park improvements, gazebo and accessibility work slated for fall

The Select Board received an update on Patton Park's master plan, including a schedule for a fall gazebo installation and plans to improve walkways and accessibility around the park's pond and facilities.
Staff said the gazebo work should take place after the summer parks program ends, likely in September, and that bids have opened for the work. The master plan includes new walkways (potentially around the pond) and improvements to bathroom facilities and accessibility so residents with mobility impairments can better navigate the park. A parent raised the prospect of fencing the playground to improve child safety and containment for children with special needs; staff and members discussed tradeoffs such as isolating the playground from other park users and noted the master plan does not currently include a fence. Staff will consider the request and raise it with relevant committees as design and phasing proceed.
No formal vote occurred; staff will coordinate timing with park programming and bring updates as work is scheduled.
