St. Stephen council adopts 2026 budget after Truth in Taxation hearing

Mayor Lisa Marvin opened the Truth in Taxation public hearing at 7:00 p.m. and asked three times for public questions; "There were no audience questions or concerns regarding the 2026 budget," the minutes state. Following the hearing, Council Member Danita Traut moved to adopt the 2026 budget; Council Member Gene Skaj seconded the motion and the council voted to approve it.
The treasurer's report presented earlier listed a beginning balance of $2,191,768.48, total receipts of $4,165.21, total disbursed $15,121.24 and an ending balance of $2,180,812.45. Council members also noted an expected 2025 second-half budget settlement of $129,674.77 that should arrive this week and directed staff to follow up on outstanding snow-plow billing questions.
