Planning Board proposes floodplain bylaw update; moves floodplain director role to Conservation Agent

Ben Robinson, clerk for the Tisbury Planning Board, told the Conservation Commission that the town's minimum floodplain standards were updated in 2022 to meet FEMA requirements and that two changes are now proposed: removing references to old maps and changing the floodplain director from the building inspector to the Conservation Agent. The Planning Board has scheduled a public hearing on March 6, 2026, to review the changes.
Robinson said the March 12 deadline for town meeting article submissions makes it unrealistic to advance higher standards this year, so the Planning Board intends to adopt the minimum-standard changes now and pursue more comprehensive updates next year with additional public input. The Planning Board agreed to notify the Conservation Commission when floodplain discussions appear on Planning Board or Zoning Bylaw Review Committee agendas.
