Sheriff reports graduations, staffing changes and community events; department working with ICE
Summary
Sheriff Ryan Swope reported a graduation from Kirtland Corrections Academy, staff promotions and hires, a jail cook's departure, a canteen study recommending a full-time kitchen employee at no extra county cost, and announced coordination with ICE; several community events were scheduled.
Sheriff Ryan Swope updated the Board on staffing and operations in the Sheriff's Office. He said Doug Brown has graduated from the Kirtland Corrections Academy, Jail Administrator Tessner and Corporal Peer are performing well in new roles, and the jail cook accepted a position with the Crawford AuSable School District. A canteen/TIGS study recommended the jail is busy enough to support a full-time kitchen employee at no additional cost. The department currently has one cadet in the academy and recently hired Jeff Short as a road deputy.
Swope also described upcoming community outreach and fundraising events: the Guardian football game on Oct. 10 "honoring all Military or First Responders," and the Flee and Elude run on Oct. 18 with funds benefiting the Youth Services Program. At the meeting's end, Sheriff Swope noted the Crawford County Sheriff's Department is "in the process of working with ICE," a brief announcement recorded in the minutes.
