The Physical Services Committee voted unanimously to create a new HVAC Technician position (Grade 09, Step 04) at a starting hourly rate of $30.5455. The motion, moved by Virginia Scott and seconded by Matthew Fascaldi, was intended to promote a current Parks Department skilled laborer who already holds EPA certification for HVAC installation and refrigerant purchase.
Travis Ewald, commissioner of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, told the committee that promoting an in-house employee with the required EPA certification will allow the county to purchase refrigerant and perform HVAC repairs at reduced cost rather than relying on outside contractors. The committee recorded the motion as carried with all members in favor.
