Crawford County adopts budget amendments, approves $597K in General Fund claims; commissioner abstains

On Aug. 14 the Crawford County Board of Commissioners approved General Fund and Special Revenue Fund budget amendments and authorized a multi-fund claims payment list. County Controller Paul Compo presented the Budget Performance Report for the period ending July 31, 2025; the report showed revenue up 3.9% year over year, tax receivable posted up 4.5%, and expenses 15% over last year.
The Board voted to authorize payment of claims that included General Fund totals of $597,368.26 and individual fund items such as Indigent Defense Fund $63,546.91, Road Patrol Fund $38,333.58, Homeland Security (HSGP) Fund $17,603.16 and other fund-specific amounts recorded in the minutes. The payment motion (moved by Commissioner Lewis, seconded by Commissioner Moeller) carried by roll call; Commissioner Kraycs recorded an abstention on that vote because his business performed asphalt work on a county health department project.
Controller Compo said next year’s budget is close to balanced and that the audit committee would meet after the session; he also warned the Board expects some form of state cuts though details are not specified. The Board approved the presented budget amendments on motions made during the meeting.
