Interns demonstrate lab upgrades funded by Schlink Foundation grant

The Berkshire Board of Education heard a staff presentation about a summer technology internship program and a recent Schlink Foundation grant that funded replacement of the district computer lab.
"We got a grant from the Schlink Foundation and we were able to replace all the computers in our computer lab," said Mr. Von Torsick (S5), identified in the meeting as the district's Director of Operations and Technology. He told the board that interns Savannah Brockway and Ben Pleva helped remove older machines, deploy roughly 20–30 new desktops and load necessary software.
Ben Pleva (S6), identified in the record as one of the interns, described hands‑on learning: "It really... jump started this new... program Auburn's doing for us because they're combining classes," he said, crediting the internship with building patience and problem‑solving skills. Savannah Brockway (S7) brought Chromebook components to illustrate device internals and offered small parts the board could review.
Board members asked informal questions about the interns' school standing and future plans; S5 confirmed the internship was paid and reimbursed by state funds that also provide industry‑recognized credentials for participating students. The presentation closed with the board thanking the students and staff for saving administrative time over the summer.
