Board approves engineering agreement to design water-main upgrades on nine streets

The Village Board on April 27 approved an engineering agreement to design Phase 1 of a water-system improvement project covering Chestnut, Maple, Oak, Schuyler, Center, Logan, Grant, Elm and Sherwin Streets.
Brian Nott told the board the agreement funds design work for the entire Phase 1 area so the Village will be ready to proceed if state or grant funding becomes available. "This approval is for Phase 1 encompassing the following: Chestnut, Maple, Oak, Schuyler, Center, Logan, Grant, Elm and Sherwin Streets, upgrading from 4 inch to 6 inch water mains," Nott said. Bridgette Stocks added that the Village can complete design work and still be reimbursed for design costs for up to two years and that the LaHood grant could be used even if IEPA funding is not available immediately, although that would require additional steps.
On a motion by Board member Brian Peight, seconded by Brandon Smith, the board approved the engineering agreement as presented; the minutes record the vote as "ALL AYE." The board was told an estimate of available funding should be known in June; staff were directed to prepare a plan-set and to identify utility conflicts as part of the design work so the project can be scaled or advanced depending on funding availability.
The special meeting opened at 6:00 p.m. and was adjourned at 6:08 p.m. on a motion by Dean Rood, seconded by Peight; the minutes were submitted by Village Clerk Claudia Simpson.
