Board reviews preliminary 2026 budget numbers, flags grant opportunities and outstanding contract items
Summary
At its March 23 Committee of the Whole, trustees reviewed a preliminary budget spreadsheet from Nicole Callos, noted potential grants (a listed $112,000 Tony McCombie award and a $100,000 LaHood grant), and identified contract and revenue items that still require confirmation.

Nicole Callos provided the board with a spreadsheet of preliminary budget numbers and asked department heads to refine their own line items. Board members and staff flagged several outstanding items that could materially affect revenue and expenses: Mediacom contract amounts need attorney confirmation, an intergovernmental agreement with the schools must be updated before July 2026, and the decision whether a school resource officer (SRO) would be a new hire depends on grant funding.
Trustee Brandon Smith said he will add a separate water-budget line item to the draft, and trustees discussed the difference between how grants are shown on the Treasurer's balance spreadsheet versus department budgets. The minutes list two specific grant prospects by name and amount: "$112,000 Tony McCombie" and a "$100,000 LaHood grant," the latter likely to be considered in next year’s numbers. The board was told ACS grant-writing costs are $3,500 per department per year.
