Montour highway and landfill reports note winter prep, equipment fixes and landfill fence decision
Summary
The board reviewed the November highway report (pothole repairs, winter salt planning, equipment maintenance) and heard that an estimate to move the landfill fence exceeded the land’s value, so the fence move will not proceed; a well will be drilled and maintenance will continue.

The board reviewed the Highway Superintendent’s November 2025 report, submitted in his absence, covering routine maintenance and equipment updates. The report lists a Brake Maintenance Certification class hosted by the town (Point Spring & Driveshaft), pothole repairs across various roads, shoulder cutting on Frost Hill, washout repairs on Frost Hill and Hitchcock, a driveway pipe replacement at 4590 Frost Hill, and winter preparation plans that include ordering another salt delivery for the 2026 budget. Equipment notes state the 2019 Ford F550 is back in service and a spinner motor was replaced under warranty on the Western Spreader Ford F550.
Separately, the landfill update reported that the estimate to move the landfill fence exceeded the value of the land, so the board will not proceed with moving the fence; the board intends to drill a well at the site and will explore turning the site over to the DEC though the DEC previously declined it. The board will move funds back to the town’s accounts while keeping sufficient funds for yearly mowing, testing and maintenance.
