OSR committee asks town to alter Tashmoo seating platform, cites ADA and context concerns

The Tisbury Open Space and Recreation Committee voted 5-0 on Feb. 12 to request modifications to the seating platform recently installed at Lake Tashmoo, citing concerns about scale, placement and accessibility. Cheryl Doble, a committee member, reported she received a letter from Henry Stephenson expressing displeasure with the structure installed by the Department of Public Works; committee members said the installed platform differed from the design reviewed by the Conservation Commission.
Barbara Lampson proposed removing waterside seating and rails, adding plantings to improve visual integration, and installing a side ramp to provide ADA access. The committee agreed there had been insufficient communication between DPW, town leadership and the Tashmoo Springs Building Committee during implementation. The motion to send a letter requesting partnership and the specific alterations passed unanimously; Lampson and Carolyn Wallis will draft the letter for committee review to be addressed to Kirk Metell, Town Administrator Joe LaCivita, Building Inspector Greg Monka and Lorraine Wells, chair of the Tashmoo Springs Building Committee.
