Staff member told the committee the city recorded three water breaks in the past month at the 400 Block of Columbia, the 200 Block of Columbia, and near 4th & State. "We've had 3 of them in the last month," the staff member said, and explained how crews excavate and keep flow running to locate leaks before isolating and repairing mains.
To speed small repairs, staff described a skid-steer-mounted mixing bucket used as a portable concrete mixer: "It's basically a concrete mixer that's like twice the capacity of like your average 1. It runs off the hydraulics of the skid steer," staff said. The committee discussed valve age and the need to inspect and replace failing valves and sleeves during repair work.
