Council updates parks work, fencing and restrooms ahead of Founders Day

Mayor Anthony Cuevas and Public Works Superintendent Bruce Wolfred provided a parks-and-recreation update at the May 12 meeting, describing recent maintenance and event preparations. Wolfred reported the swimming-area fence had been removed, a temporary field fence installed, and that "the restrooms have all been painted in anticipation of the events." Council and staff discussed possible short closures of parks or restrooms the evening before Founders Day to reduce vandalism or staffing concerns.
Residents and staff also raised issues with beach overgrowth and invasive weeds; Councilmember Larry Flaman and others suggested applying for additional funding to replace or secure fences. The council named upcoming paving projects and thanked Keep Putnam Beautiful and public-works staff for their efforts ahead of the May 16 Founders Day celebration.
