Commissioner Kim Sherwood moved on March 3 to name the new Library/Senior Center the Joan Kinney Library and Senior Center; Commissioner Todd Ausborn seconded the motion and it passed 4-0. In a prepared statement, Sherwood said the name reflects the building’s combined role as a library and a hub for senior programming and community engagement.
"Naming the facility the Joan Kinney Library and Senior Center honors Joan Kinney’s legacy while clearly defining the building's dual purpose — a place dedicated to knowledge, connection, service, and community for all generations," Sherwood said. Commissioners noted the Library Commission and Parks & Recreation have been preparing the building for opening and that the kitchen has passed inspections.
