Several residents used the public-comment portions of the June 15 meeting to press the council on public-safety and community matters. David Thornberg cited a 2024 news report that ranked Orangeburg County third in the state for violent crime and said "Sled identifies 2 main places in Orangeburg County: Edisto Drive and Goff Ave." He urged support for the Sheriff's Department and questioned two $40,000 line items and a county debt figure he described as "almost $5,000,000."
Brianna Parker, founder of the Matter to Autism Foundation for Orangeburg, told the council her foundation's autism awareness event "brought over 1000 attendees," with families traveling from across the region. Tim Brown, a landlord, complained about how eviction papers were served to a tenant and said an officer knocked and left quickly — "she was back in her car" — leading him to claim he lost 11 days of rent; he said he had raised the matter with Captain Clinton. Sid Goff spoke about the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and local commemoration opportunities. Chairman Johnnie Wright closed public comment before proceeding to the regular agenda.
