Communications report highlights ParentSquare; parent raises cell-phone concerns

Marion ISD staff provided updates on communications and the ParentSquare platform at the Aug. 20 board meeting.
Courtney Junkin presented the communications report and John Stewart presented ParentSquare. During open forum, Mandy Moore spoke about ParentSquare and concerns about student cell-phone use and communication practices. The minutes note that public testimony must be requested 24 hours in advance under Board Policy BED(LOCAL) and that public testimony is limited to two minutes.
The Marion Education Foundation also provided a brief update during the reports section and announced "Casino night is this Saturday August 23rd," according to the minutes. The board did not take formal action on communications items during the meeting.
