Solid Waste District highlights specialty recycling, school outreach and inmate work program

Bonnie Martens, program manager for the Solid Waste District, presented the district’s annual report and described several programs and partnerships.
Martens outlined specialty recycling services, environmental enforcement work, and the PROUD (Providing Responsibility for Inmates thru Duties for the Environment) program. She said the district worked with the Clark County Combined Health District to review 186 complaints in 2025 and partnered with 16 different schools to provide recycling and awareness education. The district also supports event and residential recycling and works with community programs.
Commissioner Rittenhouse thanked Ms. Martens, noting she had spent time working at the specialty-recycling location and praised the service to the community. Commissioner Patterson said without the district’s work, many recyclable items would go to landfill.
