Commissioners approve 50-year lease of Clark County fairgrounds to Agricultural Society

The Board of Clark County Commissioners on July 29 accepted a 50-year lease of the county fairgrounds to the Clark County Agricultural Society aimed at preserving the property for agricultural and community use.
Commissioner Sasha L. Rittenhouse said the long-term lease is intended to safeguard the fairgrounds “to protect the fairgrounds in the future.” The lease covers a 119.93-acre tract conveyed to the county and runs from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2076; the listed consideration is $1.00 per term. Commissioner Charles A. Patterson and Commissioner Greg R. Kaffenbarger joined Rittenhouse in a unanimous vote to authorize Resolution 2026-0593.
Jay Flax, president of the Fair Board, and Dean Blair, Clark County Agricultural Society Director, addressed the commissioners to thank them for the lease and to describe recent fair attendance and future bookings. Commissioners said the action both preserves local agricultural heritage — Clark County calls itself the birthplace of 4-H — and supports long-term community use of the site.
The lease was presented and accepted during the commission’s regular session at the Clark County Fairgrounds; the County Administrator was authorized to execute the agreement and related documents.
