Board hears aging facilities needs; playgrounds may require costly replacement

Staff member (S1) reviewed short-term facilities priorities — heating and cooling upgrades, aging classroom units, and floor replacement — and cautioned that maintenance and life-cycle costs can be substantial. "Once you pull it out of the ground, you will not be able to put equipment back in that spot," S4 said when describing safety and spacing rules for playground replacements.
S4 gave an estimated range for work on playgrounds: "a lot of the stuff we're looking at is anywhere from 80 to a 150,000." Board members discussed staging replacements, insurance requirements for fall padding, and the high ongoing maintenance costs of tile floors versus VCT. Staff said they will return with cost estimates and priorities for August consideration.
