Board warned state funding bump will be largely eaten by rising PERS costs
Summary
Staff said a legislative increase in the state school fund could add roughly $400,000 to the district in year one, but rising PERS employer rates are likely to absorb much of that gain, with staff estimating the PERS increase alone could be in the low‑to‑mid hundreds of thousands.

District staff told the board that while the state school fund increase (to 11.3) looks like a significant boost—"that's about a 400,300 thousand dollar bump for us"—much of that will be offset by higher PERS employer contribution rates. "Just the PERS rate increase to us is an increase of over 250,000," staff said, indicating that net new dollars available for bargaining or other uses will be smaller than headline figures suggest.
The board and staff agreed they will need to take a deliberate approach in upcoming contract negotiations and budget builds because several contracts are up this year and projected PERS rates are expected to remain elevated for several years. Staff said they are preparing spreadsheets and projections to share with the board and bargaining teams to guide those discussions.
