Commissioners weigh whether radio-controlled and animal racetracks should require permits

Commissioner Fowle described a notable RC track by Highway 3, saying it "occupies an area of maybe 40 by 80 feet" and asked whether that use should be permitted. Planning staff said the code examples were intended to address human-operated vehicles but that planning would not object to explicitly including remote control uses.
The commission discussed public-safety and access concerns if an RC track became a destination or event site. Commissioners proposed treating small, occasional uses as allowable by administrative use permit (AUP) with the director able to refer large or frequent uses to the Planning Commission. "Where we allow an AUP for a small every once in a while…versus a routine every day or heavy on the weekend," planning staff said, recommending scale-based elevation to full review.
