Middle school HVAC, carpet and bleachers projects come in under budget, staff says

Mr. Kimble told trustees the middle-school units are up and cooling and that corridor and classroom carpeting was completed over the summer; most systems are now functioning and only one classroom awaits a replacement part. "The project came in under budget and all systems are running," he said, adding current numbers put the contract near $5.479354 million — about $365,000 below the $5.844 million authorization.
Trustees asked about control of individual HVAC units, parts availability and the location of unit controllers; Kimble said individual units are controllable by maintenance staff and that attic stock of carpet is stored for repairs. The board also heard that unsafe bleachers were removed and are being replaced with movable, shorter bleachers at several sites. The board thanked maintenance and facilities staff for completing work in time for the start of school.
