After hearing presentations and public comment, the Town of Babylon Planning Board voted on Aug. 10 to close the public hearings for both the rezoning application for 26 Bethpage Road and the informational site-plan hearing for the Next Generation Sports Complex at 388 Broad Hollow Road. Board members said they needed time to review written comments and outstanding site-plan materials before issuing final recommendations or approvals.
For the 26 Bethpage Road item, the board heard resident concerns about pedestrian safety and schoolchildren crossings; applicant counsel and the operations representative stated there would be no change in truck traffic and that the site is leased through 2038 under existing IDA arrangements. For the sports complex, the board emphasized that a recorded off-site parking lease and enforceable shuttle arrangements must be provided as conditions before staff will recommend final approval. In both matters, the board left the record open to accept written comments and instructed staff to return the items for future consideration.
