Council approves conditional-use permit for cannabis retail at 300 Belgrade Avenue

The North Mankato City Council on Aug. 4 approved Conditional Use Permit CU-2-25, allowing a cannabis retail shop at 300 Belgrade Avenue. City Planner Lassonde told the council the application from Madeline Peck met local zoning and buffer requirements and that notices were sent to property owners within 300 feet; Council Member Steiner moved to approve the CUP and Council Member Peterson seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Lassonde said the council’s approval is conditioned on the business obtaining state licensing and registering with the City, providing the City with complaints it receives, prohibiting on-site consumption and sampling, prohibiting products sold from dispensing machines, and requiring child-resistant packaging and signage consistent with City ordinance. During public comment, Preston Perreault, a representative for the applicant, said Madeline Peck was unable to attend and that "they intend to be good community members," and that the applicant will pursue Office of Cannabis Management approval at the state level. City staff clarified that the city cannot require additional parking for the existing building and that district-wide parking policy changes would need broader action.
