Board reports 14 Lyme and 2 Anaplasmosis cases; flu and COVID vaccine planning underway

Ann Marie McCauley, the Nurse Supervisor, told the board there have been 14 reported cases of Lyme disease and two of Anaplasmosis this season and emphasized the importance of tick checks after outdoor activity for people and pets. Board members asked about tracking alpha-gal and other emerging tick-related illnesses; McCauley said the department tracks those conditions and the Health Department director said they can expand follow-up on positive cases to collect more information.
Izzo also noted that Arbovirus surveillance so far has shown no positives for West Nile virus or EEE in Wellesley traps. McCauley said the department has submitted requests for flu vaccine for fall clinics and that some COVID vaccine doses will be available for homebound residents; clinic planning will continue into the fall.
