The Washington Community High School Board authorized the superintendent to let bids for year-two, summer 2026 capital projects as recommended by the Finance Committee.
Board members discussed projects that include replacement of the 1942 roof, installation of security and alarm devices, wiring upgrades, widening sidewalks at Wilmor and Jefferson, safety lighting, improvements to the stadium entrance and ticket booth, and sidewalk work. The minutes also record discussion of a new building to provide expanded space for Auto and Construction classes and a major portion of a new weight room with concessions, restrooms and dressing rooms; the existing weight room space would be repurposed for construction classes.
Most of the projects are funded in part or fully by HLS funds, and the board authorized bids to be let with construction work planned to begin in the spring following the bidding process. Kopinski moved and James seconded the authorization; roll call vote was Yes — Buck, James, Drum, Kopinski, Essig, Funk, Eyres. Motion carries 7-0.
